Stripes

Just a few striped hats made with yarn remnants.

Great little projects for using up the yarn that would otherwise be wasted.

October Hats

This past weekend, I spent several hours trying to figure out the Italian (or, as they call it, "tubular") cast-on that I had learned several years before at Ann Budd's workshop. It's a nice and stretchy cast-on that is perfect for socks and hats.

When I finally figured it out, I made several merino hats for our Hazel Village friends. What a fun October look!

Another Bonnet

Just some pictures of another cardi and bonnet set I recently made. I think it looks really good on Phoebe Fawn.

Liberty Time

I've always loved lawn cotton and the only thing that can make it even better, in my opinion, is when it comes in gorgeous Liberty of London prints.

I am so looking forward to sewing from this new stash that just arrived at my door.

Feels like an early Christmas gift!

Rhapsody in... Yellow

Gershwin's most famous composition might have been Rhapsody in Blue but our current season calls for yellow!

Bonnet Time

Fall is in the air. Bonnet time is coming.

These cute little bonnets for our HV friends were designed by my mom. She didn't think they would fit mice but my son and I discovered yesterday that mice can wear them as well!

Accidental Invention

I heard once that most inventions are either accidents or experiments gone wrong. But up till a few days ago, I never really experienced this myself.

Earlier in the week, I was making one of the cable Hazel Village sweaters for a friend. I had to switch to a different skein in the middle of it, and since it was late and the lights were on, I didn't notice the subtle difference in the color. In the morning though, it became clear that those two skeins must have been from totally different dye lots. The bottom part of the sweater looked really off.

I went ahead and undid the mismatched part and searched high and low to find the same shade of yarn. It turned out I had only a little bit of this shade left, not enough for a whole sweater. So in the end,  I decided to make a cropped cardigan instead of a full length sweater.

I didn't expect much but I really (REALLY) like the result. These cropped cardigans are perfect over HV linen dresses.

See for yourself.
